What is Sponsored Research Contracting and Compliance (SRCC) is primarily responsible for?

• Review compliance requirements of proposals that result in a sponsored program award.
• Negotiation and acceptance of sponsored program awards.
• Forward award and compliance documents (see compliance requirements) to Sponsored Research Administration to establish a fund number to allow expenditures to begin.

What is the Principal Investigator is responsible for?

• Working with Sponsored Research Development to route proposal through SDSU and SDSURF
• Review and approve the specified Scope of Work and budget at the time of award
• Obtain appropriate and applicable compliance approvals

When can spending begin?

The award and backup documentation will be passed to Sponsored Research Administration for fund number assignment once all of the following have been completed:

• Principal Investigator has approved the Scope of Work and budget listed in the award
• All necessary parties agree to the terms and conditions of the award
• The award has been executed by all necessary parties
• All compliance requirements have been met and proper approvals have been obtained.

How long does it take to process/complete an award?

Awards are processed in the order they arrive. The time it takes to process an award varies depending on the type of award, its terms, and compliance requirements.

How can I expedite the process?

Fast turnaround awards are those which have completed the Sponsored Research Development Instructions for Completing the Proposal Routing Form Checklist and all necessary compliance requirements prior to the award’s arrival.

Can I spend prior to my award’s arrival?

Spending cannot occur prior to the arrival of the award, and not until proposal routing is complete and compliance requirements are met. Special requests to begin spending prior to an award’s arrival, may be directed to your SRD Development Specialist. (PDF format, 17KB)*
