Defined Contribution 403(b) Retirement Plan
Benefit Description
- Upon hire, employees will be automatically enrolled into the plan at 5%
- Upon meeting all eligibility criteria, SDSU Research Foundation will match 200% on the first 5% of contributions, up to 10% maximum employer matching contribution
- All contributions are 100% vested
- Employees choose investments among different plan portfolio options
Eligibility Requirement for Matching Contributions
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Hourly, regular, and other options employees who have worked 1,000 hours in a benefit year
Eligibility Date for Matching Contributions
- For hourly, regular, and other options employees, 1st of month following the completion of 1,000 hours of service in a benefit year

SDSU Faculty Overload Employees
- For Faculty Overload employees who have worked 500 hours in a calendar year
- SDSU Research Foundation will contribute 10% of the Faculty Overload’s salary per pay period into retirement plan
- Contributions will begin the first of the month following the completion of 500 hours in a calendar year
- Contributions are immediately 100% vested
- Faculty Overload chooses investments among different plan portfolio options
- Faculty Overload also eligible to make voluntary contributions into retirement account
