Benefit Description
- The voluntary 403(b) Savings Program allows employees to contribute part of their income toward retirement.
- Employee contributions are on a salary reduction (pre-tax) or on an after-tax (Roth 403(b) basis.
- Employee contributions will be directed to an account at TIAA.

Annual Limits For Calendar Year 2025
Employees are able to contribute a portion of annual salary up to certain limits. Review the table below to determine your annual deferral limit.
- Less than age 50: The lesser of 100% of pay up to $23,500
- Age 50 and over: The lesser of 100% of pay up to $31,000
Are You Employed By SDSU and SDSU Research Foundation?
If you are employed at both SDSU and SDSU Research Foundation, the amount you can tax defer between both employers should not exceed the annual IRS limits listed above. Contact TIAA for additional information at 1-800-842-2252.

- Contribute up to the maximum contribution amount of $23,500 in 2025
- If you are age 50 or over, you can contribute an additional $7,500 in 2025
- No waiting period to start

- Immediate tax savings if pre-tax contribution
- Tax-deferred earnings if pre-tax contribution
- Tax eliminated on earnings made under after-tax Roth 403(b), if certain requirements are met
- Small minimum contribution
