Alex Waters Joins SDSU Research Foundation Board
Alex Waters, Director of Economic Development at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, has been elected to a three-year term on the SDSU Research Foundation Board of Directors.
“As a graduate of the university, having received so much from my experience here, I am thrilled to be joining the board and to support the research mission of San Diego State University.”
Mr. Waters is the Director of Economic Development at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation (JCNI). In this role he focuses on operations, strategy and implementation of new projects related to economic growth, innovation, and impact. One of his primary roles is leading CONNECT ALL @ the Jacobs Center (CAJC), the San Diego region’s first low to moderate income and diversity-focused accelerator program. Funded by the City of San Diego, this initiative was developed to help early-stage entrepreneurs scale businesses and create jobs.
Prior to his role developing CONNECT ALL @ the Jacobs Center, Mr. Waters helped build the Collaboratory for Downtown Innovation, another City of San Diego funded initiative with the Downtown San Diego Partnership to help entrepreneurs across the region. He has worked as a consultant to build programs and streamline operations for local non-profits, startups, UC San Diego’s Design Lab, and the University of San Diego’s Department of Professional and Continuing Education.
An innovation and leadership coach, Mr. Waters provides entrepreneurs and organizations the framework and learning tools to move businesses forward. Michèle Goetz, associate vice president and CEO of SDSU Research Foundation praised Mr. Waters’ expertise in start-up operations, management, educational program development and customer support. “We are excited to welcome Alex to our board and look forward to him sharing his valuable insight and expertise.”
Alex received his BA degree in philosophy from the University of Maryland – College Park, and his MA in philosophy from our very own San Diego State University.
The board of directors is the governing body of SDSU Research Foundation and is responsible for establishing policies and guiding the organization in achieving its objectives. SDSU’s president serves as president of the board and is responsible for directing the affairs of the organization, reviewing and approving the annual operating budget, and ensuring that research foundation activities and functions conform to the policies of The California State University board of trustees and San Diego State University.
